Stephanie Greer Heatley March 12, 2025
This March has been especially cold and rainy. The much-needed rain always puts me in an instantly cozy, laid-back mood—if I’m being honest, sometimes a little too unmotivated! But instead of fighting it, I’ve been embracing the change of season. Here are some things bringing me joy this month—I hope they bring you joy as well.
Cozy Reads & Comforting Recipes
I’ve been diving into Ina Garten’s memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens. I’ve always been an Ina fan, and this book only deepens my admiration. It weaves together her love of French cuisine, entertaining, and business savvy in such a warm, engaging way. It’s the perfect casual read—whether you’re sipping a glass of wine in the tub dreaming of Paris or curled up by the fire with a cup of tea.
Speaking of Ina, one of my absolute favorite comfort recipes is her Chicken in a Pot. It’s the ultimate dish for a chilly day, filling the kitchen with the coziest aroma. Here’s the recipe!
A Candle That Sets the Mood
Nothing completes a cozy day like a beautifully scented candle. My current favorite is the Cucumber Thyme candle by LAFCO. While they’re available on Amazon (linked here), although I always try to shop local and usually pick mine up at Gum Tree in Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach.
Staycations: A Little Escape Without the Flight
March is a wonderful time to plan a getaway—especially with Spring Break around the corner. We usually keep it local, and I truly believe California offers some of the best staycation destinations. This month, we have great friends visiting from Minnesota, so naturally, Disneyland is on the itinerary! They’re staying at Terranea Resort, which is always a must—whether for a destination trip or a local retreat. With its stunning ocean views, world-class spa, multiple restaurants, and cozy fireside bar, it’s the definition of a perfect escape.
Here are some of my other top staycation spots, from LA to Santa Barbara:
For Ultimate Luxury:
The Peninsula Beverly Hills – Impeccable service, monogrammed pillowcases, kids’ names spelled in fresh-baked cookies, and even a full room-service menu for dogs. Pro Tip: Ask about the day rate for cabanas—they offer a 50% discount, and it’s worth it!
For a Desert Retreat:
The Parker Palm Springs – A dream for adults! Think Jonathan Adler’s 60s glam decor, hidden garden pathways, and a luxurious spa with an indoor pool and cold plunges. Don’t forget the cucumber vodka shot on arrival! Dining at Mister Parker’s and Counter Reformation is always a highlight.
La Quinta Resort & Spa – A great option for families. The Spanish-style architecture, citrus-scented air, and casitas with semi-private pools make it a serene yet kid-friendly escape. Bonus: It’s a Hilton property—hello, points!
For Coastal Elegance:
San Ysidro Ranch – One of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Each room is a private cottage with a fireplace, hot tub, outdoor shower, and in-room dining al fresco. It’s quiet luxury at its finest—no wonder the Kennedys honeymooned here!
Ojai Valley Inn – A true sanctuary nestled in the Ojai Valley, this resort is perfect for a rejuvenating escape. The serene spa, rolling hills, and beautifully manicured golf course create a peaceful retreat. Families love the kids’ activities, while adults can indulge in world-class dining, artist workshops, and scenic bike rides through the charming town of Ojai.
The Four Seasons Biltmore Santa Barbara – One of the most iconic resorts on the California coast, this property is set to reopen soon after a long closure. With its Spanish Colonial architecture, lush gardens, and beachfront location, it’s the ultimate blend of old-world elegance and modern luxury. Whether you’re lounging at the Coral Casino Beach Club or enjoying a sunset cocktail at Ty Lounge, this is Santa Barbara at its finest. I’ll be patiently waiting!
I hope you enjoy these favorites of mine. If you need any recommendations or want to chat travel, give me a ring. A staycation reminds us just how special home really is!
